Iranian and Saudi Arabian officials meet in Russia for BRICS meeting
The Foreign Ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia met and exchanged views on the sidelines of the second day of the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting in Russia, where they discussed bilateral, regional and international issues, as well asbways to develop mutual cooperation.
Iran joined the BRICS group as a full member in January 2024. BRICS is an intergovernmental organization established by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa joining a year later, originially identified to highlight investment opportunities. Combined the BRICS represent about 30% of the world's landmass, 45% of the global population and about 30% of the globe's gdp.
Diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia have been restored after Chinese-Iraqi brokered mediation in March 2023, after years of tensions between the two countries.
Saudi - Israel
The US is pressuring Saudi Arabia to accept a major US-Saudi deal "security deal", that would include defense guarantees and civil nuclear cooperation, a second component would normalize relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia, after Hamas' attack on October 7th, Saudi Arabia announced that "nothing can move forward without a two-state solution that includes Palestinian self-rule in both the West Bank and Gaza.
